Virgin Mobile FreeFest/Kyocera: Echo Temple

Published on .

Mother NY and MPC NY created an interactive "sound temple" installation that let participants create music by simply moving, for Virgin and Kyocera. The installation, for the Virgin Mobile Freefest, consisted of six huge speaker towers fitted with motion-sensor cameras that encircled a central tower. Participants standing in front of the towers could change an instrument's volume, pitch or musical effect by moving their bodies or swishing around fans branded with special symbols.

The core of the music was produced by the central tower, with drums, bass, drones and main harmonic progressions. An accompanying Tumblr site explains the development process.
