Beam Suntory's Global Chief Marketing Officer Kevin George is leaving the liquor marketer for Acosta, a sales and marketing agency company specializing in consumer packaged goods.
Mr. George will take on the role of CMO and president for the Acosta Marketing Group, where he will "be responsible for the overall strategy of AMG and its suite of specialized marketing agencies," according to Acosta. The company's agencies include experiential marketing shop Mosaic.
Mr. George joined Beam in 2009 when the company was known as Beam Global Spirits & Wine. He was previously VP-general manager for Unilever's deodorant and health care unit, where he was known for spearheading unconventional marketing campaigns for Axe body spray.
Mr. George will start at Acosta on Nov. 8 and work from Chicago. Beam Suntory is based in a Chicago suburb and was formed in 2014 when Suntory Holdings Limited of Japan acquired Beam Inc. In a statement, Beam Suntory said it would conduct a "thorough search" for Mr. George's successor.
Mr. George "has made the personal decision to leave Beam Suntory in November for an outstanding leadership opportunity outside the spirits industry," Beam Suntory said in the statement. "In his six-year career at Beam Suntory, Kevin's leadership has been instrumental in our growth and development in so many ways. Kevin has passionately led our efforts to create famous brands while personally developing our marketing leaders and talent around the world."
Some notable efforts launched under Mr. George's watch include a campaign that debuted earlier this year starring Justin Timberlake for Sauza 901 Tequila. For the marketer's flagship Jim Beam bourbon brand, Mr. George oversaw the development of a campaign called "Make History" that included a long-term partnership with Mila Kunis that began in 2014.
