The chief creative officer of Interpublic Group of Cos.' Lowe & Partners, Matthew Bull, is exiting the network at the end of the month.
In a statement, Lowe said Mr. Bull is departing to pursue a personal project, which industry executives say is the launch of his own shop on U.S. soil.
While the new shop would represent Mr. Bull's first venture stateside, it wouldn't be the first time he launched his own agency. The South Africa native, after cutting his teeth at Omnicom Group's TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris and becoming a highly awarded copywriter, in 1996 launched his own shop in his home country. Lowe eventually took a stake in his shop, and it became Lowe Bull, which has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
As his bio on Lowe's website states: "If something's still he likes to stir it."
In his 15 years with Lowe, Mr. Bull has had a variety of roles, including leading the South African office, two years as CEO of the London office, and his most recent post, which he took up in 2009, as chief creative for Lowe across the globe. Because he continued working closely with clients, including Lowe's key Unilever account, his departure is significant.
Said Mr. Bull in a statement: "Lowe has been an incredible partner to me and an invaluable ally in building Lowe Bull and in supporting me during my time both as CEO of London and CCO, not to mention in their understanding of my ambitions here in the U.S. I will be forever indebted to them."
Rather than replace Mr. Bull, Lowe said it will now lead creative via a "global creative council," for which it has tapped Jose Miguel Sokoloff, chairman and chief creative officer, Lowe & Partners' SSP3 in Colombia, as the first president.
Lowe Worldwide CEO Michael Wall in statement said Mr. Sokoloff was the right person for the job because he has "ambition, he has the absolute respect of his peers and he has an interesting worldview as a Latin American whose agency can and does compete on the global stage."
