Click 3X has added Brazilian director Vellas to its roster for exclusive representation for in the US & Canada, working in tandem with Sentimental Filme, the director's Sao Paulo-based production company. His spot for Leica, Alma (Soul), earned five Lions at this year's Festival of Creativity in Cannes and was also shown in the New Directors' Showcase. It won Gold for Cinematography, Silver for Direction, two Bronze awards for Art Direction and Editing, and one Silver in the Film category for Retail Stores. Vellas (born Felipe Vellasco) began his career as an art for agencies such as DM9DDB and Ogilvy & Mather before becoming an art director and animator for production companies. He joined the Sentimental Filme roster in early 2012.
Comedy and promo director Jay Karas has signed with integrated production company The Famous Group. Karas recently completed his third season as showrunner and director of Chelsea Handler's "After Lately" for E! Entertainment, and just signed to direct his first episode of NBC's "Parks and Recreation". He directed the campaign to launch "Conan" on TBS, as well as three additional campaigns for the show including the viral hit "Conan Washing His Desk!" . His promos also include ABC's "Good Morning America" featuring Jamie Foxx and spots for "Don't Trust the B in Apt. 23", Coke Zero and "Men at Work" promos for TBS, and launch campaigns for E! and Disney XD.
Venice production house Wild Plum has added Vance Malone to its directorial roster. Since joining Wild Plum in March, he has already directed spots for clients such as Home Depot, McDonald's, and Mercy Health Systems. In addition to his commercial work, Malone has also made short films and documentaries, having his work screened at several festivals over the years, including Sundance.
Director Ryan Hope has joined The Directors Bureau for commercial and music video representation in the US. Hope, recently nominated for Director of the Year at the MVPA Awards, has directed videos including George Michaelʼs "White Lights", starring Kate Moss. Other work includes a fashion film for clothing retailer River Island and art documentary "Skin" for Garage Magazine.
Director Keith Rivers has signed with A Common Thread for exclusive representation in music videos. Last year he directed a video for Microsoft's Internet Explorer featuring British singer Alex Clare, whose song Too Close was featured in the soundtrack. Rivers went on to direct an official music video for the song that has also become a viral hit. His other work includes campaigns for Chevrolet, Volvo and Amazon, among others.
Traveling Picture Show Company has signed South African director Jonathan Parkinson for exclusive representation in North America, Australia/New Zealand and China. His work include spots for Toyota, Mazda and South African Tourism. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, Parkinson's partnership will extend TPSC's reach partnering with Parkinson's service company Fresh Eye Films.
Forever Pictures, a new London production company created by ex-Partizan head of music video exec producer Sasha Nixon, and documentary producer Jacqueline Edenbrow, has signed NY-based director John Strong for representation, after seeing his two music videos for The Oh See's, written, produced, directed, shot and edited by Strong himself.
West Coast-based production companies Accomplice Media and The Joneses have joined forces under the Accomplice name. Executive producers Jeff Snyder and Mel Gragido (pictured) will co-manage the company, overseeing a roster of 16 directors that includes Don Burgess, Jeff Gorman, Vincent Laforet, David Jellison, Rick Knief, Hans Petter Moland and Sherpas Cinema.
Athena Studios has signed CG animation production manager Brice Parker to the newly created position of producer. Parker will oversee development of the studio's forthcoming original stop motion and visual effects projects. Most recently, Parker spent eight years with Disney-Pixar, where he managed Pixar's DVD Team, Theme Parks Project Teams, and Toons Art Department. He also produced the "Pixar In Concert" symphony. In addition to Pixar, Parker's experience includes working in visual effects production management for the "Jurassic Park" and "Matrix" film franchises.
