Y&R New York has made three new senior creative hires. Christian Carl joins as global executive creative director overseeing Dell; Hamish McArthur is head of design; and Greg Lotus is executive director of integrated production. All three report into Y&R New York CCO Leslie Sims. Carl comes to Y&R from Havas New York, where, as ECD, he led creative development on Dos Equis and other clients. He also spent seven years at Arnold Worldwide, where he was promoted to interactive creative director and oversaw the Volvo account. McArthur has 20 years of brand identity, print and digital design experience at agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicis, McCann Erickson and Sugar & Partners. Lotus previously worked at McCann New York for nearly 20 years in successive roles from assistant producer to SVP/executive producer.
Branding and design firm Duffy and Partners has opened a new office in Chicago and has expanded its digital leadership team. The moves are part of the agency's new "Design Experience" offering, meant to provide classic design principles, user experience design and the technology necessary to deliver them. The news coincides with the company's rebranding to a new, streamlined name "Duffy."
Martin Davis, founder and former president of technology agency Ratchet, will become CEO in the process. John Geletka will also join as EVP/digital strategy and George Hilal as EVP/technology. Mr. Geletka has more than 15 years of experience merging marketing and technology. An instructor on digital foundations at the Chicago Portfolio School, his previous gigs include stints at CentUp, of which he was a co-founder, Fusion92, Avenue and Deutsch. Mr. Hilal has a degree in computer science and 15 years of development chops. He's previously been lead developer at Fallon Worldwide and most recently served as VP/technology at Ratchet.
Mistress has hired Lixaida Lorenzo as creative director, reporting to agency founding creative partners Damien Eley and Scott Harris. Lorenzo was formerly a creative director and copywriter with JWT San Juan, Puerto Rico. During her 14 years at JWT she worked on brands including Ford, Unilever, Kraft, Nestlé, Pepsi, Gatorade, Walgreens, AT&T, Diageo, Cadbury and Heineken.
U.S. Hispanic shop Alma is promoting Alvar Sunol to co-president, chief creative officer of the Miami-based agency, from SVP-executive creative director. Mr. Sunol, a Spaniard, joined Alma two jears ago from Bassat Ogilvy in Madrid. He will work with Isaac Mizrahi, who is being promoted to co-president, chief operating officer, from SVP, managing director. Luis Miguel Messianu, founder and president, will now be creative chairman and CEO. Omnicom Group's Alma has been named Ad Age's Multicultural Agency of the Year for two consecutive years.
Amsterdam agency Kingsday has appointed Rui Hupe as a creative focusing on digital design. Hupe joins from Amsterdam digital design studio De Franse Kamer, where he worked as an art director and designer for four years. He has worked for brands such as Heineken, Samsung and Microsoft, with motion graphics, web programming, animation and concept development among his areas of expertise.
San Francisco-based Cutwater has named Ciaran Rogers senior digital strategist. The former KBS planning director lead the agency's efforts on investment company Vanguard. He also previously worked at shops suchs as Hanft Raboy and Partners, Euro RSCG and freelanced for DDB and Razorfish. He started out at McCann Erickson, where he worked on MasterCard's Priceless campaign, first as account manager and then later jumping to planning.
