John Fragomeni has been appointed president of Mirada, the creative studio founded in December 2010 by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, cinematographer Guillermo Navarro, and Motion Theory co-founders Javier Jimenez and director Mathew Cullen. In his new role, Fragomeni will help lead business development efforts for Mirada, implement new creative strategies, and continue to manage and oversee the studio’s portfolio of design, visual effects, animation, digital and interactive production, and developing technology.Fragomeni has been with the company as senior visual effects supervisor since its launch. He has helped oversee both concept development and visual effects for Guillermo del Toro’s new movie Pacific Rim. His previous film credits include Terminator: Salvation and the second and third installments in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Caviar has expanded into the digital arena with a new venture based in L.A., Caviar Digital. In conjunction with Amsterdam-based digital shop, Rocket Science Studios, Caviar has brought on Falk Eumann (left) as creative director, Sun Komen as technical drector and Dieter Lebbe as executive producer to spearhead the new venture. The trio each have more than 10 years of experience in each of their areas of expertise. Eumann started as a creative in advertising in 1997 and met Sun Komen in 2008 when she was working at a digital agency partner. They decided to start their own digital agency, Rocket Science Studios. Over the last five years they have worked with brands such as Adidas, BMW and Cirque du Soleil. Lebbe has been an executive producer at Caviar for five years.
Saville has signed Canadian director Wayne Craig for commercial spot representation in North America. Craig has just won the AMPIA award for Best Television Commercial for spot ‘The Demo' for energy company TransAlta. He has won over 70 international awards, including a Cannes Lion, the London International Awards, the Bessie and the prestigious CLIO Award. Work inculdes Tax Act’s Super Bowl commercial debut in 2012.
Pulse has appointed Zak Razvi as executive producer, music videos, based in its London office. Razvi will oversee all UK music video output, reporting directly to MD of commercials & music video Marisa Clifford. He joins from BBH where he spent the last five years in the production department.
Harpoon Pictures has signed David Brashear to its roster, which sees him make his debut as a commercial director. Brashear attended USC film school’s Critical Studies Program and worked in the Los Angeles area with reality TV shows, animation companies and the indie movie scene before spending 2 ½ years creating commercials for brands that use crowd sourcing video sites. His Super Bowl spot for Speed Stick Power, titled “Unattended Laundry,” was conceived through this process.
Click 3X has added Megan Kelly to its roster as executive producer and managing director of live action. Prior to joining Click 3X, she helped to establish international production company Savage in the US and played a similar role with consultancy Runaway International. She worked on live action spots at Shilo and on both digital content and broadcast spots at Publicis. Kelly also spent time as head of production at The Sweet Shop, Public Domain, and Czar.
Furlined, the Los Angeles based commercial production company, has appointed Kristen Bedard Johnson as its new on staff East Coast Sales Representative. She will work closely with the executive producer of sales, Meghan Lang. Bedard Johnson has represented directors, editors, musicians and visual effects professionals on the East Coast. Prior to her work in sales, she was an actor on stage and screen.
Integrated production company B-Reel has appointed Jenn Johnson as its in-house East Coast Rep. Johnson was the former rep of Radical Media. B-Reel's directorial roster includes Josh Miller, Anders Hallberg, Filip Tellander, Drake Doremus, Miles Jay, Steven Tsuchida, Roderick Fenske, Patrik Bergh, Tom Malmros, Emil Moller, Johan Perjus, Jens Sjogren, Anders Forsman, and Mikael Marcimain.
