Droga on 'Mad Men': They Dressed Better, But Things Are More Interesting Now

Published on . 0

It's too bad that "Mad Men" seems to locate the ad industry's glory days in the rearview mirror, said Droga5 Creative Chairman David Droga.

"We might not dress as snappy as them, but I feel like there's more interesting things going on this year," Mr. Droga told Ad Age Editor Abbey Klaassen in this video, produced in collaboration with Newsweek and The Daily Beast for Newsweek's retro "Mad Men" issue.

There were great ads in the 1960s -- including a VW commercial and an Alka-Seltzer spot set in a prison, both excerpted here -- but all the fragmentation, pressure and chaos today are set to forge a new golden age, Mr. Droga said.

"Out of the chaos is going to emerge a stronger, brighter industry," he said.
