Arnold, VW Win Top Andy Award

VW "Squares"
Arnold Worldwide won the Grandy Award last night at the 2003 International Awards ceremony at Caroline's Comedy Club in New York. The grand prize went to "Squares," a Volkswagen spot from Arnold and Anonymous Content director Malcolm Venville in which a montage of square objects is juxtaposed with the curvy Beetle.

33 Andy awards were presented in all: 18 for TV work; 12 for print; and 3 for interactive. Crispin Porter + Bogusky led the way by winning seven awards, five for Mini outdoor work and two for the Ikea TV spots "Lamp" and "Moo Cow Milker." Arnold Worldwide picked up four awards for VW, one for magazine work and three for the TV campaign that includes the spots "Chain Reaction", "Bubble Boy" and the Grandy-winning "Squares." Wieden & Kennedy/Portland likwise took home four awards for the Nike spots "Before," "Move," "Streaker" and "Angry Chicken." (A selection of Andy television winners can be viewed here.)

Bozell, Team One, TBWA/Chiat/Day/San Franscisco and BBH/London each won two awards, while BBH/New York, R/GA, The Martin Agency, BBDO/New York, Leo Burnett USA, La Communidad, Euro RSCG Circle, the Concept Farm, Euro RSCG Mezzano Costantini Mignani/Milan and Weigertpirouzwolf/Hamburg each took home one. The Richard T. O'Reilly Public Service Award went to Leo Burnett USA and @radical.media for an AIDS awareness PSA, "Under Five," directed by Ralf Schmerberg.
