BBDO, New York takes two Best of Shows at the OBIEs

The Outdoor Advertising Association of America's OBIE Awards ended in a split decision last night in Boca Raton, FL. Fortunately for BBDO, New York both Best of Show OBIEs are coming its way.

The agency received the award's highest citations for its "Voyeur Project" for HBO as well as its BBC work, which used coaxial cables to create scenes from world news events on building walls.

A total of 17 OBIEs went to executions straying far and wide from the traditional including Leo Burnett's McDonald's "Fresh Salads" living billboard and A&E's directional audio installation for "Paranormal State" that simulated a nearby voice, scaring passers-by.

All told, the BBDO network took six of the 17, with Energy BBDO and BBDO West winning along with New York.

Leo Burnett's Altoids work was inducted into the Hall of Fame with creatives Steffan Postaer and Mark Faulkner celebrating the heritage of the "Curiously Strong" campaign, which stretches back to 1995.
