Greg and Colin Strause, who moonlight as the music video/commercials directing team The Brothers Strause out of Clever Films, have named their new Santa Monica effects shop [hy*drau"lx]. The brothers were former partners with Mat Beck at Pixel Envy, which dissolved earlier this year.

Pixel Envy was well-known for its expertise in 3D and previsualization, and created effects for spots for Sony Playstation (PS 9 -- with Method), Target, and Toyota, as well as a number of music videos.

The new company has been in operation since late spring, but had gone nameless until the Strause brothers worked on the MTV Video Award-nominated Will Smith video for Men in Black, which happened to involve massive animation tests for spaceship hydraulics.

[hy*drau"lx] is currently working on clips for Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, and Lifehouse, and recently created a completely synthetic 3D environment for a new Pepsi spot directed by Francis Lawrence. Ann-Christine Diaz
