Chiat/Day Says "Hello" to Starburst

Published on .

Starburst "Art Center"
In the agency's first work for Starburst since taking over the account from Grey last year, TBWA/Chiat/Day/N.Y. pays campy homage to the 1984 video for the Lionel Richie track "Hello." For those too young to remember, the narrative of the original video featured a blind admirer who sculpted a somewhat unflattering bust of Mr. Richie.

In the Starburst spot, directed by MJZ's Rocky Morton, an art student uses Richie's song as a backdrop as he tries to impress a girl by unveiling a bust of her he's made entirely out of Starburst. She is not impressed, however. She is frightened.
