Robinson directs Common and Mya for Coke.
Video and commercials director Chris Robinson has signed with HSI, the production company announced Tuesday. Robinson, an accomplished hip-hip video director who was formerly with Partizan, crossed over into spots early last year with a commercial for Fallon/Minneapolis and And 1 featuring NBA star Kevin Garnett. He went on to shoot two spots in Berlin Cameron/Red Cell's debut campaign for Coke -- a video-style commercial featuring hip-hop artist Common and R&B chanteuse Mya reprising the Eddie Harris standard "Compared To What," and another starring Penelope Cruz.

"He's somebody I've really wanted to work with for a long time. I love his reel," says HSI president Stavros Merjos. "What I'm looking for is directors who come out of videos and want to be in both businesses, because we can manage both sides well."

"We love Chris so, of course, we support his quest to find the right fit for his career," says Partizan president Steve Dickstein, who describes the split as "amicable." "He will remain a friend of the company. We wish him the best for the future."
