Well, no surprise here. Volvo's "The Epic Split," the awards show darling that has racked up the metal at the Art Directors' Club and the New York Festivals, has been named "Best of Show" at the 41st annual One Show Awards.
The awards this year got a bit of a makeover. Gold Pencils across all categories were handed out at the Alice Tully Hall in New York City's Lincoln Center Friday evening. The silver and bronze Pencils were awarded earlier this week.
Three separate juries, Advertising, Interactive and Branded Entertainment, agreed to crown the Volvo work by Forsman & Bodenfors. "Well-conceived and beautifully shot, 'The Epic Split' is precisely the kind of creative work that cannot be pigeonholed into a single discipline," Kevin Swanepoel, president of The One Club, said in a statement. "The fact that it was the most parodied spot of the year is testament to its pervasiveness and engagement." Forsman also won Agency of the Year, while Volvo Trucks won Client of the Year.
Ninety-seven Gold Pencils, 142 Silver Pencils and 134 Bronze Pencils were awarded this year. Ogilvy Paris was one of the big winners, racking up Golds for work including IBM's "Smarter Outdoor," Scrabble Wi-Fi and "Same Sex Marriage" for Google. Ogilvy Brazil also earned nods for Dove's Real Beauty Sketches, while the network's New York office earned a Gold for IBM's "A Boy and His Atom."
