Fluid Launches "Battle of the Ad-Bands"

Are you a diva trapped in a media planner's body? Did that promotion to ACD ruin your dreams of becoming a rock superstar? Apparently New York post and music house Fluid knows this about you, which is why the shop's hosting "The Battle of the Ad-Bands," a showcase and competition entirely devoted to bands made up -- at least in part -- of ad agency staffers. "We knew a lot of people in the business who had bands," says Fluid partner David Shapiro. "So we thought, let's give everybody a chance to strut their stuff."

Fluid is currently accepting applications for the 10 slots in the battle, which will take place September 24 at CBGB. The lucky 10 will be chosen at random, rather than by merit, and the winner of the showcase -- which is being co-sponsored by Creativity magazine -- will win a trophy dubbed the "BAdBoy" and an opportunity to play a full set at CB's at a later date. Proceeds will be donated to the New York City Public Schools, and -- if all goes well -- Shapiro says he hopes to turn the battle into an annual event.
