Rothschild launched her career at Doyle Dane Bernbach as a copywriter in 1973, eventually becoming EVP, Creative Director and member of the board of directors of the creatively prolific shop. She left in1986 to form Grace & Rothschild with former Doyle Dane chairman Roy Grace.
Along the way Rothschild created award winning campaigns for Chivas Regal, IBM, Volkswagen, Land Rover and others. She was known as Doyle Dane's most awarded copywriter during her tenure there and her writing skill and approach to the work made her a mentor to several of today's high profile creative directors.
"Diane lived her life the same way she wrote copy-with class, wit and intelligence," says Toy New York co-founder/creative director Ari Merkin, who had worked with Rothschild at Grace & Rothschild in the mid 90s. "She was obviously one of the world's best copywriters. But more than that, she was a warm and generous human being who made a huge difference in people's lives. I'll always be thankful for having the opportunity to work with her, and for simply having known her. She will be deeply missed."
Grace & Rothschild merged with Della Femina /Jeary & Partners in 2000 and Rothschild had been serving as Vice Chairman of the agency. After she was diagnosed with lung cancer, she became active in the Lung Cancer Alliance and created campaigns in support of early detection of the disease.
Rothschild was inducted into the One Club Creative Hall of Fame in 2005, alongside Cliff Freeman and John Hegarty.
