Inside WaMu's Development Center

The easy way to pay bills.
Seattle agency Sedgwick Rd. continues to rise to the challenge of having a client whose rapid expansion has thrust it, and its agency, into the national spotlight. In the latest campaign for Washington Mutual -- which breaks regionally next week and nationwide in September -- we go behind the scenes at the WaMu Development Center, where they are busy coming up with some pretty bad ideas. In one new spot -- the series was directed by MJZ's Craig Gillespie, who won a Silver Lion this year for the WaMu commercial "Paul" -- we see a device for paying bills that's advertised as portable, although it's anything but. It's the size of a vending machine. Fortunately, the hapless spokesman reminds us that WaMu lets you pay bills online for free.

Other questionable ideas include the "Insta-Branch" -- an inflatable WaMu office that, unfortunately, destroys everything around it -- and a "Money Shrub" that unexpectedly takes on a life of its own.
