Marcus Tomlinson Develops Picture-Perfect Spot for BMW

Published on .

BMW "State of the Art"
After capturing the compassionate side of celebrities in his acclaimed PSAs for U2 rocker Bono's "The One Campaign," renowned London-based photographer/director Marcus Tomlinson has turned his lens to another famous name in his latest commercial work: BMW. The stylish spot "State of the Art" for the new BMW 3Series Touring takes full advantage of Tomlinson's photographic eye, employing crisp compositions, a statuesque model and a split-screen motif that perfectly captures the beauty of vehicular symmetry. "Through all the exhibitions and galleries and projects I've done in the past, my work has always expressed two areas: simplicity and creativity, and the merging of the two," explains Tomlinson. "With 'The One Campaign,' I just stripped away all the effects and went for a simple approach. With BMW, if you isolate each area, it has its own purity and simplicity—but in a more complex way. BMW is very proud of their vehicle, and their creative brief was very open: just make something great for us!"
