In a year that has seen countless creative agency leaders make bold career moves, this one will go down as the most surprising of all.
Nick Brien, McCann Worldgroup's new CEO, has persuaded creative star Linus Karlsson to decamp the highly successful New York office of independent shop Mother to help turn around Interpublic Group of Cos.' largest -- and arguably most challenged -- agency network. In an unusual arrangement, Mr. Karlsson effective February 2011 will serve as the chairman and chief creative officer of not one, but two key McCann hubs, New York and London.
The news comes days after Creativityfirst reported Mr. Karlsson's exit from the shop he co-founded -- prompting the breakup of a 20-year creative partnership with Paul Malmstrom.
