Modernista! MD Nick Simmonds is Dead at 47

Nick Simmonds, who opened the Modernista! Amsterdam office in May 2006 as its managing director, died Friday morning, June 27th, of a brain hemorrhage.

Simmonds, who was 47, had been in Amsterdam 11 years, prior to Modernista! as head of client services at Wieden + Kennedy, Amsterdam. Previous to that he was in his native England, working at Publicis, London as client services director. He began his career in advertising as an account manager at Allen, Brady & Marsh in 1982.

In a statement released today, Modernista! founding partners Gary Koepke and Lance Jensen and Modernista! Amsterdam ECD Boyd Coyner wrote "we are still beyond belief about what happened. Nick was truly one of the smartest and honest but above all most big-hearted people we know. Having him no longer around is leaving an immense gap. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Modernista! has set up an online tribute page for friends and colleagues to leave memories of Simmonds at modernista.com/nick.

Funeral services will take place in London's St. Michael and All Angels Church, Barnes, London SW13 on Tuesday the July 8th at 2pm. A reception will immediately follow at Roehampton Club. In Amsterdam there will be a celebration of Nick's life on Saturday, July 12th at 4pm at Café Thyssen (Nick's local bar), Brouwersgracht 107, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. According to the statement, "Both the funeral as well as the celebration are open to all of those who want to say a last goodbye."
