Movies Meet the Real Manhattan

A love story with a New York ending.
The Tribeca Film Festival is underway this week in Lower Manhattan and Ogilvy & Mather -- whose client, American Express, is a founding sponsor -- has rolled out a couple of cinema trailers to promote the event. Co-directed by Hungry Man's John O'Hagan and Ogilvy ACD Brendan Gibbons, the spots feature big screen clich├ęs that are interrupted by the realities of New York life -- a setup for the line "It's Movies. It's New York."

In one of the spots, we see a perfectly wrought gangster scene, punctuated by the entrance of a modern Manhattanite, who ignores the obvious violence and marvels at the size of the vintage apartment. In the other, a melodramatic couple stand in the driving rain and consider the future of their syrupy relationship. Fortunately, things don't end as perfectly as you might expect.
