NEWS: A hat-trick for Gorgeous

Gorgeous Enterprises has bolstered its roster early in 2007 by signing three new directors, the UK production company's first new signings in more than a year. Lance Acord, Joaquin Baca-Asay and Joachim Back have been inked for the UK and most of Europe as part of a rep deal with Park Pictures in the US, which the two companies began discussing late last year. Acord has worked on features as a DP, including 2003's Lost in Translation and 2006's Marie Antoinette, and directed spots for Microsoft, Nike, and Adidas. Baca-Asay is an acclaimed DP and directed his first spot for Nike last year with Acord. Back, formerly of Danish production company Bacon, has directed recent spots for Viagra and Captain Morgan. "Lance is somebody we've always respected and always wanted to work with," said Gorgeous managing director Paul Rothwell. "Talking to him, we became aware of Joachim Back, who we knew and respected but didn't know was at Park, and it was at that time that Joaquin started directing." As the year between recent signings indicates, Gorgeous is not usually quick to take on even just one director. "But it just happened that way," Rothwell says of adding the trio. "We're not opposed to numbers. We're just looking for quality and if they're great directors, we'll talk." The addition of three Park talents might seem a massive expansion of the company's roster, previously at six directors, but it's not part of an aggressive growth plan, Rothwell adds. "The timing was just right," he says. He also asserts that the signings shouldn't create confusion about the company's strong, continuing relationship with Anonymous Content, which continues to rep Gorgeous directors Frank Budgen, Tom Carty, Chris Palmer and Peter Thwaites in the States.
