This morning, 2.5 million customers of Nordstrom department stores received an e-mail inviting them to Nordstrom Silverscreen, a branded interactive media channel created by Fallon that shows music videos and links to an online store. Celebrating fashion, music, music videos and filmmaking techniques, the site, NordstromSilverscreen.com, features a different music video each month, launching with remixed '80s hit "Our Lips Are Sealed" from the Go-Gos. With DJ Fat Boy Slim masterminding the song's remix, the classic video also got a remix from Partizan director Olivier Gondry, who mixed footage of modern women in with Belinda Carlisle and her band. "We weren't beholden to a message or a time frame," says creative director Susan Treacy. "We wanted to do something untraditional that elevates Nordstrom's fashion authority. It's a dream brief." Another notable feature of Nordstrom Silver Screen is the connection of the video to the online store in the "mixing room," where shoppers dress a mannequin and have the option of clicking through to Nordstrom.com to make a purchase. Further uniting the fashion and music are a feature that gives each shoe, shirt and bag a different element of the song, whether bass, rhythm or vocals, allowing each fashionista to make her own remix of the song. Next month's video will be a remix of Culture Club's "I'll Tumble 4 Ya," and after that the site will change in tone, according to Treacy.
