Olivier Gondry Debuts as Commercials Director

The Q45 provides an escape.
Olivier Gondry, kid brother to commercial and video directing superstar Michel Gondry, steps out from behind the scenes and up to the lens in a new spot for the Infiniti Q45 from TBWA/Chiat/Day/L.A. Olivier is no stranger to the business, of course. A veteran of French effects company BUF and L.A.'s Method, he has collaborated with frère Michel on such projects as The White Stripes' video for "Fell In Love With A Girl" and the "Talking Bellybuttons" ad for Levi's and Chiat/Day from a few years ago, both via his own L.A. effects house Twisted Labs. Lately, however, he's been collecting directing credits. He co-directed the Chemical Brothers video for "Star Guitar" with Michel and has lensed a pair of videos for French acts Lacquer and Noir Desir.

In his commercials debut, via production company Partizan, Gondry makes use of time lapse effects to portray a man lost in a bustling urban landscape, illustrating the message that "The problem with following the crowd is that it's crowded."
