Starbucks: Pushing up the CG daisies
It's rare that an animation company suddenly makes it big with one signature look, but that's exactly what has happened to Psyop, the Manhattan-based boutique founded by MTV animation veterans (see Creativity
, June 2002). Since the beginning of the year, Psyop's precise take on rotoscoping has figured into an Olympic spot for AT&T and an anthem campaign for Volkswagen. Now, in a campaign from Fallon/New York that broke last week, the shop lends its talents to Starbucks. A pair of spots promote Starbucks' bottled Frappuccino and DoubleShot products with lush, flowing animation and a score from indie-rock heroes Yo La Tengo.
