Soccer is War in Adidas' New Global Campaign

Published on .

Adidas "Gimme the Ball"
Soccer is truly a war in a new global spot for Adidas from the 180/Amsterdam half of the 180/TBWA alliance, which handles the company's advertising around the world. Directed by MJZ's Fredrik Bond, "Gimme the Ball" stars more than a half dozen pro footballers who are suddenly engulfed in a martial struggle for the ball, all set to a manic remix of Aram Khachaturian's already frantic "Sabre Dance." At the commercial's climax, the action slows almost to a halt, revealing a neo-classical portrait of war, reminiscent of Delacroix's "Liberty Leading the People." Which is apt, since this spot will likely play well in France -- in Cannes in particular.
