If you didn't sense the nerd-geist sweeping the industry before, you've certainly felt it over the last few weeks, as the industry's attention and tweets have turned to SXSW Interactive.
The SXSW Music Conference and Festival launched in 1987 and in 1995, the "Multimedia" portion of the gathering was spun off as a separate event. Long a trip for the digitally inclined, the full service agency and production types have attended in greater numbers over the last two years, and this year it's official – it's the new Cannes for the cool kids.
The higlights are many. Among keynotes: Daniel Ek, founder of music service darling Spotify, Twitter CEO Evan Williams with Havas' Umair Haque, Designers Accord founder Valerie Casey, and Danah Boyd, Microsoft Research Social Media Researcher and Harvard University Berkman Center for Internet and Society fellow. Panels are piled high. Where at another event, three panels called Big Brother in Your Brain: Neuroscience and Marketing; iPad: New Opportunities for Content Creators (featuring CAT speaker Raven Zachary); and The Future of Influence would make up most of a conference day, at SXSWi, those are just three panels scheduled simultaneously, Saturday at 11 a.m.Creativity will be on the ground at SXSW staring Friday – drop a note to firstname.lastname@example.org or @tiezzi if you want to say hello.
