Ulf Johansson, a founding member of the Swedish directorial collective Traktor, has split with the group to pursue a career as a solo director, according to Partizan executive producer Steve Dickstein. Partizan represents the now six-member collective -- profiled in the current issue
-- for commercials. "It was something that had been discussed for a long time, him going out on his own," Dickstein says. "Ulf is a really talented guy, as all these guys are, so we hope he does well."
Details of Johansson's future plans were not available at press time. Calls to Traktor's Santa Monica office were not returned.
Traktor's work earned two Gold Lions -- along with a Silver and a Bronze -- at this year's International Advertising Festival in Cannes, leading Partizan to the Palme d'Or as the festival's winningest production company. The collective won the Cannes Grand Prix for its Fox Regional Sports campaign out of Cliff Freeman & Partners in 2001.
