Verizon Enters Walkie-Talkie Wars

A real estate agent runs into trouble.
In two new spots from Lowe/New York, Verizon Wireless touts its "push to talk" feature by bashing the reliability of its walkie-talkie competitors, such as Nextel. Apparently the only thing worse than standing next to someone with the direct connect feature is having the feature but not being able to connect.

The pair of spots, directed by @radical.media's Steve Miller, show professionals who rely on their walkie-talkies meeting misfortune when the things don't work. In one, a contractor takes an unexpected hit from a kid in a swing. In the other, a real estate agent falls prey to the old rake-in-the-face bit. "If your walkie-talkie service is unavailable, bad things can happen," the voiceover warns as Verizon's test guy arrives on the scene to clean things up.
