Webby Nominations Announced

The Webby Awards announced nominations today for its annual celebration of all things internet, previewing the lay of the interactive land heading into awards season.

With 14 nods, R/GA topped the most nominated agency list with video banners for the Pepsi Dear Mr. President campaign, the AdCouncil's That's Not Cool teen sexting awareness campaign and various Nike efforts.

Wieden + Kennedy, Crispin Porter + Bogusky and mobile agency The Hyperfactory triple tied for second most nominations with eight each. WK was recognized for such work as the Coraline movie release campaign and Nokia's Somebody Else's Phone, while CPB was nominated for Burger King campaigns Whopper Sacrifice and Whopper Virgins as well as Rooftop Racer for Coke Zero. This year the Webbys will name an agency of the year for the first time.

Other standout nominations from ad world include The Viral Factory's Diesel XXX SFW, Volkswagen UK Website Launch promotional video, "Wassup 2008" and Sarah Silverman's "The Great Schlep" from Droga5.

From the internet at large, videos like FunnyorDie's "Prop 8 The Musical," "Paris Hilton Responds to McCain Ad" and the Sundance Channel's "Green Porno" videos featuring Isabella Rossellini are also up for awards.

Through April 30, users can cast votes for The Webby People's Voice Awards.

This year's winners will be announced on May 5, with an awards gala to follow on June 8 in New York City.
