Head Trick

By Tk Published on .

As part of last month's Semi-Permanent design conference in New York, Vice Magazine curated an "infamous hockey player"-themed art show called "Slapshot," for which L.A. production/design company Buck contributed this portrait of Dave "Cement Head" Semenko, celebrated Edmonton Oilers enforcer from 1977-87. Titled "The Bodyguard," a hand-drawn illustration was traced in Illustrator, then printed on canvas, according to Buck designers Thomas Schmid, Benjamin Langsfeld and Yker Moreno. Why Semenko? It seems Buck CD/partner Ryan Honey is from western Canada "and I grew up watching the Oilers and Wayne Gretzky, in particular," he says. But it was impossible to forget Semenko, "the ultimate bruiser."
