Global sports gear maker Puma and everyone's fave little car, the Mini, are putting their design flair where the rubber hits the road for urban travelers, teaming on an auto-inspired new shoe and a shoe-flavored new car. Mini recruited industrial designer Yves Behar to conceive a line of products designed to further integrate life behind the wheel with life on foot. Puma was brought in to realize the Behar-designed shoe, which incorporates technology Puma has developed for Formula 1 racing footwear for life's unexpected chicanes, or for those who find themselves rallying on weekends. While the shape and sole of the shoe are built for performance, the design also features a removable inner bootie for comfort, to be worn on-and off-road. The shoe will be available at Puma shops and specialty retail stores starting this month. Puma also had a hand in designing a custom Mini that incorporates the company's footwear tech in addition to its external design cues. Other items in the Mini Motion line include a Samsonite-designed "carpack" bag, a microfiber jacket and a fastener-free watch. A second collection is in the works.
