NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- AOL Latin America has fired 133 people, 7.6% of the staff of the joint venture between AOL and Cisneros Television.

Most of the job losses were at the company's headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In Ft. Lauderdale, AOL Latin America closed down its business affairs group that is responsible for analyzing potential acquisitions and other deals and transferred content creation to local country markets.

Job cuts were also deep in Argentina, where a long economic crisis caused analysts to slash their forecasts for user growth in 2001 to just 124,000 from 256,000.
