NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Compaq Computer Corp. kicks off an outdoor advertising push this week to support the launch of Microsoft Corp.'s Windows XP operating system.

Created by Interpublic Group of Cos.' Foote, Cone & Belding, New York, the effort includes ad placements in Times Square, such as on the Nasdaq video wall, in addition to 200 phone kiosks, bus sides and video vans. A print ad breaks in USA Today Oct. 24-25, the launch date for the new operating system.

The Times Square ads strike a upbeat tone and work New York into the campaign. Billboard copy reads "Like New Year's and Right Here," while bus ads say "Like a Bagel and a Schmear."
