New Corvette Stingray Leaves Its Mark on YouTube Channel Ratings

Unveilings at the Detroit Auto Show Drove Views for Automotive Channels

The Detroit Auto Show got under way last week, and had a big impact on YouTube's Originals Channels.

With the unveiling of some high-profile vehicles this week, all of the auto channels saw a bump in views. At No. 6, MotorTrend garnered 4.28 million views, an increase of 50% over last week. By far the most popular auto channel of YouTube's Originals, it has more than 298 million all-time views. Falling below MotorTrend, Drive came in at No. 14 with 1.57 million views -- a 32% increase over last week -- and Car and Driver took the No. 21 spot with 1.22 million views.

It's likely that the increase in search around auto topics has resulted in more viewers on these channels. But all three have also sent teams to the show and have put up their own content around the event. Trending on the Car and Driver channel, which had the largest increase of the auto channels at 90%, was a video introduction to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, garnering more than 370,000 views for the channel.

The Corvette Stingray was revealed last week at the show and was one of the most, if not the most, highly-anticipated car at the event. The seventh-generation Corvette is the first new model produced since 2005. Both MotorTrend and Drive also featured videos about the Stingray on their channels and all had in excess of 50,000 views.

In addition to the new Corvette, other popular cars at this year's Detroit Auto Show -- more formally known as the North American International Auto Show -- included the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, an electric car, and the BMW i8 Concept Spyder, a hybrid vehicle. Cars from Audi, Bentley and Acura also made a big splash at the show, which has now been held for more than 100 years.
