Ford Also to Roll Out Expand T-Bird Spot for Theaters

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- WPP Group's J. Walter Thompson, Detroit, tapped Viewpoint Corp., New York, to create an online, digital, three-dimensional tour of the 2002-model Explorer sport utility vehicle.

The animated, interactive demo at fordvehicles.com. demonstrates the SUV's features.

"Because so many of Explorer's advantages are 'under the skin,' we are excited to have found a way to help Web shoppers experience this great new vehicle," said Ed Molchany, Explorer marketing manger at Ford Motor Co.

Separately, the division created an enhanced 70-second version of its current Thunderbird roadster TV commercial for movie theaters.

JWT tapped GTN, Oak Park, Mich. for the task.

The spot started airing in 2,500 theaters last week and will run all month. Ford sold 3,319 T-birds through November, but has said it can produce roughly 25,000 annually. The new retro model went on sale in August.
