Yahoo Chief Revenue Officer Michael Barrett is on his way out at Yahoo, according to a person familiar with the situation. Mr. Barrett is in the process of negotiating his exit, this person said.
The news comes a day after Yahoo announced the hiring of Googler Henrique de Castro as its new chief operating officer. In that role, Mr. de Castro will oversee all sales and media (in addition to operations and business development), effectively eliminating Mr. Barrett's position.
Mr. Barrett had publicly said he would stay with Yahoo under CEO Marissa Mayer even though he was hired under her predecessor Ross Levinsohn. But that was before Mr. de Castro's hiring.
Mr. Barrett and Mr. de Castro worked together briefly when Google bought Admeld earlier this year. When Mr. Barrett left Google for Yahoo in June it was widely considered a coup by the ad and media communities. Asked why he has such an immaculate reputation in the industry, a senior industry exec wrote in an email: "Straight shooter. Smart. Knows the business. Great demeanor. Honest. Successful. Leader ."
Yahoo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
