About a week ago, our friend Michael Learmonth at Ad Age tweeted us about Amit Gupta. Amit is an entrepreneur who was recently diagnosed with acute leukemia and needs to find a bone marrow donor fast. But Amit is South Asian and and South Asians are severely under-represented in the bone marrow donor pool.
To get the word out and find a potential donor, Amit and the Super Amit team developed a video, created a website, and launched several blogs.
When we first heard about Amit, we thought we could help raise awareness and find more potential donors. After all, we help advertisers increase their visibility and overall awareness in social video every day. We decided to make a donation to Amit's cause and run Amit's video on our Viewable Media network.
When we first got involved, Amit's video had around 10,000 views. We project that our campaign will help generate in excess of 250,000 additional views. After two days of the campaign going live, we're happy to report that we've already driven over 170,000 views for Amit. And, what's more, over 70% of people who have watched the video have watched it to completion, which shows that people are engaged and listening to the message. This is all good news for Amit.
We hope that this will help give Amit a better shot at finding a match, as well as increase the overall visibility of the need for South Asians becoming bone marrow donors.
How you can help Amit
Helping Amit and many other people in need of a bone marrow donor is easy.
First off, you can get tested to see if you're a match. Getting tested is free and just involves a cheek swab. To see if you're a match, go to DoSomething.org. Even if you're not a match for Amit, you could help many other people in need of a bone marrow transplant.
Second, you can help spread awareness by passing along this video and Amit's story. This could help Amit find someone who could save his life.
Thank you to everyone who gets involved. Amit, we're rooting for you!
