Adidas hits its stride

Hot work from TWBA/Chiat/Day and 180 Amsterdam pushed Adidas into the top spot in this year's Awards Year in Review, a list of advertising award winners prepared by Ad Age sibling Creativity.

This ranking compiles results from all the major award shows, from the Cannes International Advertising Festival to the One Club's One Show, the Clios, the D&AD Awards, Art Directors Club Show, Andys and the Association of Independent Commercial Producers' AICP Show. Creativity then puts a value on each award depending on the show and gold, silver, bronze or grand prize level. Last year, Nike clinched the top spot with a body of work evoking the beauty of sport. This year's ranking contains many repeat winners, including Honda Motor Co., Sony Corp. and BMW Corp.'s Mini. Somewhat more surprising is the appearance of two newcomer package-goods companies in the top 15: Unilever came in at No. 3 and Reckitt Benckiser nailed No. 10. All of which goes to remind us that even deodorant, soap, household cleaner and shoe polish ads can entertain.
