Sergio Zyman's marketing site takes a fresh name

Sergio Zyman, former senior VP-chief marketing officer of Coca-Cola Co. and founder of marketing consultancy Zgroup, is relaunching his Web site. Marketingmarketing.com formally becomes ZMarketing.com as of Aug. 1. The site, designed for marketing professionals, will provide marketing tools and information to help them "accelerate their business' revenue and profit growth," according to an overview on the site. The site will offer proprietary content, access to software and online applications.

JWT taps ValueFlash to link clients, customers

J. Walter Thompson Co., New York, announces an alliance this week with Internet direct marketing company ValueFlash.com, a unit of publicly traded CDKnet.com. Under the agreement, two members of JWT's management team will serve on ValueFlash's board and WPP Group-owned JWT has an option to take an equity stake in ValueFlash. JWT will make ValueFlash's Vflash Messenger online marketing technology available to its clients. The computer desktop application lets marketers communicate with their customers online.

TheAdStop purchases media-buying site

TheAdStop (www.theadstop.com), a marketplace for online ad space that lets users research prices, site traffic, demographics and other aspects related to buying online media, announces this week its purchase of Ad360 (www.ad360.com). Purchase price of the online media buying-and-selling site was not disclosed.

Women's Forum recruits Women.com executives

Two senior sales executives left Women.com Networks for Women's Forum: David L. Soto, senior account exec, and Michelle D. Klatt, senior account exec of preferred accounts. They will share the title of director of sales and new business development at Women's Forum (womensforum.com). Mr. Soto said he liked the opportunity at Women's Forum, a grass-roots network of women's sites. Its "business model is a lot more effective and efficient," he said.

MVP.com and ad agency Leagas Delaney split up

MVP.com, the Chicago-based online sporting goods e-tailer endorsed by John Elway, Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan, parted on creative with agency Leagas Delaney, San Francisco, (AdAge.com, July 20). Creative moved in-house; Leagas will continue to handle media buying and planning. MVP.com, whose president-CEO is former Sears, Roebuck & Co. executive John Costello, in May awarded integrated online branding to Digital Edge, New York, an interactive arm of the Media Edge unit of Sears agency Young & Rubicam.

Bertelsmann to buy CDnow for $117 million

Bertelsmann agreed to buy struggling e-tailer CDnow in an all-cash deal valued at $117 million. Bertelsmann's new e-Commerce Group will oversee CDnow, which will be Bertelsmann's music play online as well as in wireless and broadband platforms. Cash-strapped CDnow had been for sale for several months.


Tonight Yahoo! Internet Life hosts the third annual Yahoo! Internet Life Online Music Awards. The awards are also hosted by Windows Media, The New York Times, Calvin Klein Inc., VH1.com and others. . . . Excite@Home said it would merge its international operations with Amsterdam-based cable operator UPC, part of UnitedGlobalCom, to form broadband company Excite Chello.

Mentoring of a different kind: Procter & Gamble Co. interactive marketing alumnus Pete Blackshaw, CEO-founder of customer feedback site PlanetFeedback (www.planetfeedback.com), is getting married Sept. 2 to Erika Brown, a brand manager on a yet-to-be-announced digital brand at P&G. Blackshaw says they met there while working in "adjacent Dilbert-style office cubicles." The couple's premartial counselor is none other than Denis Beausejour, former VP-global marketing at P&G, who spearheaded the "Future of Advertising Stakeholders Summit" in 1997, working closely with Mr. Blackshaw to organize FAST. Mr. Beausejour left P&G in April to join a Christian seminary. "He's found a new market," Mr. Blackshaw jokes. "He's quite good at it."
