Buenos Aires ads to aid scavengers

By Published on .

[buenos aires, argentina] As Argentina's deep economic crisis continues, the city of Buenos Aires is running TV, radio, print and outdoor ads by Havas' CraveroLanis Euro RSCG to encourage residents to separate their trash to make it easier for scavengers to sift through garbage for recyclable materials they can sell. To participate, consumers pick up special green bags at participating supermarkets for cardboard, paper and other recyclable materials. Trash collectors leave the green bags for "cartoneros," or scavengers, to pick up. Demand for recycled products has grown as currency devaluation makes it harder to import raw materials.
