Coca-Cola picks 'Coke Light Man'

[Essen, Germany] Reflecting the universal popularity of reality shows, star searches and Internet voting, Coca-Cola Co. in Germany selected from more than 10,000 contenders a Coke Light Man who will star in a TV spot for German-speaking Europe to be shot this month by Publicis Groupe's Publicis Worldwide, Frankfurt. Diet Coke is called Coke Light in non-English-speaking markets. Based on brief online descriptions and photos, consumers voted online weekly on whom should make it to the next round. German TV channel RTL 2 aired the event where the winner, Nick Karry, was chosen by a celebrity jury after the 12 finalists danced, sang and skated. Ironically, the perfect young German male is actually a 26-year-old American working in Germany as a translator.
