[Hong Kong] HSBC has launched a two-part "Support Hong Kong" campaign, created by Cordiant Communications Group's Bates Worldwide, to benefit people affected by the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak and revitalize the local economy. The Hong Kong-based bank is "plowing back interest payments" to customers with personal loans who work in industries, such as cinemas, hotels, restaurants and travel agencies, affected by SARS, says Yvonne Tang, client service director, Bates, Hong Kong, "to ease their financial burden." The bank is also promoting Hong Kong's commercial sector by offering discounts and rebates for customers who use an HSBC credit card when shopping and dining out, to help businesses affected by the downturn. More than 1,500 local merchants are participating in the promotion. TV, print and outdoor ads will run in Hong Kong through the summer, and they may roll out to other Asian markets later this year.
