Industry contests outdoor-ad ban

[Helsinki] Europe's outdoor advertising industry is protesting a decision by the City of Helsinki's Management Council to ban outdoor advertising it deems sexist, offensive to women, or unsuitable to children from 5,000 sites in the greater Helsinki area. Ad agency executives are concerned that Helsinki's initiative could be adopted by other European cities. "It is fair to say that some 80% of the existing outdoor advertising in Helsinki for cars, holidays and fashions would not be permitted under the new rules," said Hannu Saarinen, a marketing analyst at investment bank Malatium Oy.
