By Published on .

[sao paulo, brazil] WPP Group's J. Walter Thompson Co. is firing up to 70 people in Brazil from the agency's Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba offices, including Creative Director Darcy Fonseca. "All of the regional offices and team are operating under new bases," an agency statement said. Besides the economic uncertainty in Brazil as the country anticipated Workers' Party candidate Luis Inacio "Lula" da Silva would be elected president in the Oct. 6 election, JWT is expected to lose its Telecom Italia Mobile cellphone account to Giovanni FCB, part of Interpublic.
