Sorrell predicts delay in boom until '08

By Published on .

[New York] WPP Group Chief Executive Martin Sorrell, who has been warning the ad industry for the past two years that a real recovery will not come until 2004, now says 2008 will be the first year a boom can be expected. "If you are waiting for a boom year, stand by for 2008," Mr. Sorrell said at a World Association of Newspapers conference in Dublin, Ireland, last week. He stood by his forecast that 2004 will be better than this year because of increased spending on U.S. presidential elections and the Olympic Games, but he pushed his prediction of strong growth further into the future.
