Woolworth's drops Bates U.K.

By Published on .

[London] In the second major account defection this year for the Cordiant Communications Group agency, Bates U.K. lost the $35 million Woolworth's account in the U.K. to Bartle Bogle Hegarty, owned 49% by Publicis Groupe, after a pitch that also included Havas' WCRS and Omnicom Group's TBWA, London. In early April, the Royal Mail started a review of its $25 million U.K. account and declined to allow Bates to re-pitch the business. Layoffs are likely at Bates U.K. after losing two of its biggest accounts and the prospect of losing the $9 million U.K. Wella account (see item below).
