Oscar Noms for Industry Shorts

By Published on .

Knucklehead director Daniel Barber's The Tonto Woman earned a nomination for Best Short Film (Live Action). The film is based on the short story by Elmore Leonard about a cattle rustler who meets a woman who had been held prisoner for eleven years by the Mojave Indians. Another Knucklehead director, Johnny Green, was a production designer, and the film was edited by Final Cut's Rich Russell. Visual effects on the film were done by Jason Watts and Steve Murgatroyd at London-based Finish.

Nominated for Best Short Film (Animated) is Peter and The Wolf, co-produced by HANraHAN executive producer for animation, Alan Dewhurst and HANraHAN-repped Semafor Studios. The film, directed by Suzie Templeton, uses traditional animation techniques to tell the story of a young boy and his animal friends facing a hungry wolf in Prokofiev's classic musical piece.
