And the Oscar May Go To...

By Published on .

An abundance of familiar names popped up during last month's announcement of nominees for the 81st Academy Awards. David Fincher, for one, earned plenty of attention for The Curious Case of Benjajmin Button, including best director and best picture noms, while Digital Domain was recognized for effects work on the film and Rock Paper Scissors' Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall, who cut the film, landed in the best editing category. In all the film scored an impressive 13 nominations.

In the short film categories, Little Minx's Steph Green, formerly featured in our new directors report, earned a nomination for her film New Boy, while Smith and Foulkes of Nexus also earned an animated short nom for This Way Up (above). In the documentary short film category, The Witness—From the Balcony of Room 306 earned a nomination as well, no doubt thanks to Rock Paper Scissors editor Adam Pertofsky, who directed, along with Margaret Hyde, and Human, who scored the film.
