Unilever is handing BBH a big assignment for Unilever's Dove Men+Care, to be handled by the Publicis Groupe agency's London and New York offices.
BBH is well-known for its global work for another Unilever personal-care brand, Axe, but hasn't worked on Dove, whose main agency has been Ogilvy. Four of the 15 brands BBH counts as global brand assignments are Unilever products -- Axe, Omo and Surf detergents and Vaseline.
"We are currently working with BBH on a project for Dove Men+Care," a Unilever spokeswoman in London confirmed in an email.
She said Ogilvy is not being fired.
"We collaborate with many different agencies across the Dove portfolio depending on the task or media channel," she said. "Ogilvy continues to be a highly valued partner on all aspects of the Dove brand."
In the U.S., Ogilvy handled the launch of Dove Men+Care with an attention-grabbing Super Bowl commercial in 2010. Last year, Los Angeles-based Davie Brown Entertainment started doing more of the U.S. work, which was mostly testimonials by athletes like retired NBA star Magic Johnson talking about their personal journeys and feeling comfortable in their own skin in a campaign called "Journey to Comfort."
In Europe, Ogilvy, Paris, has been handling the Dove Men+Care account.
The assignment BBH is working on for Dove Men+Care is believed to include a TV campaign. The business from Unilever will be especially welcome at BBH, New York, where the agency conducted a major round of layoffs just two weeks ago amid account losses and concerns about cutbacks in ad spending by existing clients.
