Publicis Groupe CEO Maurice Lévy has not lost his sense of humor, despite enduring what he admits has been a "bumpy ride" in 2015.
In his annual holiday video, Mr. Lévy declares, "I have long suspected that only a handful of you were actually paying attention to what I have to say," and offers viewers the chance to avoid his message by clicking on a "skip Maurice" option instead of the familair "skip ad" button.
But – spoiler alert – Mr. Lévy's message turns out to be unavoidable. You can either watch him deliver it in earnest from behind his desk or you can skip to a series of spoof commercials featuring the Publicis boss delivering the same script.
Mr. Lévy hijacks some deliberately trashy ads in which we see him washing a shirt, brushing his teeth, or wearing a long, dark wig and vigorously tossing his hair around. In the final spot, his head appears in a kitchen sink while someone is washing the dishes, and Mr. Lévy is subjected to a good scrub.
All the while, he is talking about the French communications group's year. "It's been tough for us," he says. "Nevertheless we have fared pretty well in some of our operations and the most difficult part is behind us." Mr. Lévy declares that 2016 will be the year of "No Silo, No Solo, No Bozo," referring to the group's recent restructure.
The #skippablewishes video, created by agency Marcel, is dedicated to deceased Publicis Groupe staffers Fabrice Dubois and Yannick Minvielle, and to all the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Nov. 13, 2015.
